Course Description
This two-day training strengthens participants’ ability to prepare for, manage, and recover from complex emergencies. Through instruction in preparedness, crisis communication, ICS roles, and business continuity, attendees gain practical skills to support safe and resilient operations. A progressive tabletop exercise simulating a Category 3 hurricane allows participants to apply concepts in real time, practice decision-making, and strengthen coordination across teams. The training concludes with after-action discussions to reinforce lessons learned and identify opportunities for mitigation.
Course Objectives
Recognize key principles of personal preparedness, crisis communication, and customer service during emergencies.
Describe ICS roles and apply ICS concepts to coordinate response efforts.
Identify essential elements of business continuity and how roles support organizational resilience.
Assess evolving incident information and make informed decisions throughout all phases of the tabletop exercise.
Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders during disruptions.
Capture lessons learned and outline mitigation and improvement strategies post-incident.
Target Audience
The audience for this course includes first responders, command and management personnel, and emergency managers who are directly involved in emergency response efforts. Additionally, it encompasses secondary audiences such as public works and utility staff, public health professionals, and other key decision-makers affected by emergencies.
