Course Description

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to recognize, analyze, and defend against Gray War tactics, Active Measures, and insider threats targeting critical infrastructure. Students will explore how nation-states and transnational actors exploit vulnerabilities within organizations, understand the roles of key internal functions in defense, and learn effective strategies, technologies, and collaborative approaches to protect vital systems and maintain operational resilience.

Course Objectives 

  1. Define Gray War and Gray Zone Tactics.

  2. Why Gray War attacks target Critical Infrastructure organizations.

  3. Define and explain what is meant by Active Measures and how these methods achieve success when used against critical infrastructure.

  4. Describe who utilizes Active Measure attack methods and how these methods degrade, disrupt, destroy critical infrastructure.

  5. Define how/why disgruntled / unstable critical infrastructure employees / vendors / suppliers / contractors are targeted to be an “Insider Threat” directly supporting Nation State(s) or Transnational Criminal Organizations Active Measure Attacks upon critical infrastructure, and how to detect and neutralize the “Inside Threat”.

  6. Describe what disciplines (functions) i.e., HR, Legal, Corp Com, within critical infrastructure organizations will be needed to defend against Gray War Active Measure attacks, and  strategies for creating mutually supporting task groups to defeat Gray War attacks (originating from internal or external sources).

  7. Explain the most productive and effective strategies, tactics, and technologies for Identifying and defending against Active Measure attacks upon critical infrastructure.
